It’s hard to envision the San Francisco 49ers being in a good place injury-wise when they visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, but things may be at least a little better than expected at wide receiver.
WR Jauan Jennings, who missed Week 5 with ankle and rib injuries, was back in practice Thursday after missing Wednesday’s practice. He was also out for all three of their Week 5 sessions. His fellow WR Ricky Pearsall is still not in practice according to reporters on site at the team facility, but Jennings’s return signals that he has a chance to suit up in Week 6 against Tampa Bay.
Jennings coming back would be a significant boost to a 49ers receiving corps that was missing both of its top receivers in a Week 5 win over the Los Angeles Rams. Veteran Kendrick Bourne led the way with 10 catches for 142 yards on 11 targets. The rest of the WRs contributed four catches for 48 yards on 11 targets. Jennings prior to his injury had nine catches for 129 yards and one touchdown in three games. He also missed Week 3 with an ankle injury he suffered in Week 2.
The 49ers will release a full practice participation report once the session ends. Even a limited participation for Jennings would be a good sign for his chances to play Sunday.
