Bakersfield man arrested for Ridgecrest shooting, victim hospitalized

A 45-year-old Bakersfield man was arrested for allegedly shooting a person, leaving them hospitalized in Ridgecrest.

The Ridgecrest Police Department said on October 14, 2025, at around 3 p.m., officers were called to the 100 block of W. Reeves Avenue regarding a report of shots fired.

Police said initial information indicated that the victim had been taken to the hospital by friends.

When officers arrived, they found evidence confirming that a shooting had happened. The victim was later contacted at the hospital and was found to have sustained major, but non-life-threatening, injuries.

RPD officers and detectives immediately began their investigation and were able to identify the suspect as 45-year-old Felipe Hernandez of Bakersfield, who had left the area and was believed to be in Trona.

With the help of San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Hernandez was found in Trona and taken into custody without incident. He was later booked into the Kern County Lerdo Jail on charges related to the shooting.

“We are always grateful for our allied agencies that assist us in apprehending criminals and ensuring they are brought to justice,” said Chief Mario Ysit. “I am also thankful for the hard work and dedication of the men and women of the Ridgecrest Police Department who serve our community every day.”
