First Alert Weather: Tracking a cool breeze and lake effect rain this week

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Fall is in the air, and in the weather! An large upper level low moving in Tuesday night will park itself over us for much of the rest of this week. This will keep us cooler than average, breezy and unsettled with frequent lake effect rain showers. Breaking down the details: rain showers will pick up a bit after midnight, meaning a damp start in some spots Wednesday morning. While Wednesday won’t be a washout, we’ll have some off and on waves of lake rain showers. These showers will tend to be most persistent off of Lake Erie, which means areas west and south of Rochester. It’ll be cool, with highs in the lower 50s and a noticeable breeze out of the southwest, gusting to 30 mph at times.

We’ll see a similar pattern on Thursday, with off and on rain showers, cool air and a brisk breeze. As the low begins to loosen its grip on Friday, showers will become a little less persistent for us, while still focusing on the western Southern Tier and Tug Hill. This is where several inches of rain is possible through Friday. A few showers and cool air will linger into Friday, as well.

Looking ahead to the weekend, our rain chances will drop off, with only the slight chance of a shower or two Saturday, but it’ll remain somewhat cooler than average. Sunday also looks decent, with fair weather likely extending into early next week.
