For sixty years, British speaker manufacturer KEF has been pursuing high-quality sound, and they’re looking to produce yet another example of their prowess in the area with the Coda W speaker.
The Coda W is an all-in-one speaker system, built for the streaming age and intended to offer wireless high-fidelity sound.
Perhaps surprisingly, it does offer any Wi-Fi support but if that’s what you’re after, KEF does offer that functionality through its LSX speakers.
As is typical of any new KEF speaker launch, the driver is a 5.25-inch 12th gen Uni-Q driver, which KEF claims will be able to reproduce sound naturally thanks to the tweeter (high frequency driver) being positioned at the “precise acoustic centre of the woofer”. By doing this, KEF says the speaker can disperse sound uniformly throughout a room for a more “immersive listening experience”.
The tweeter and woofer are backed up by 200W of power with KEF’s Music Integrity Engine featuring a suite of DSP (digital signal processing algorithms) that have been specially tuned to wring out the detail and accuracy of the music you’re listening to.
As we mentioned earlier, there’s no Wi-Fi support so what you do get is Bluetooth 5.4 connectivoty with aptX Adaptive support, enabling high quality sound over standard Bluetooth with lower latency and a more reliable connection. The aptX Lossless codec that’s built into aptX Adaptive is said to support lossless audio up to 16-bit/44.1kHz.
But it’s not all about wireless connectivity. There’s a built-in phone preamp which enables the Coda W to connect directly to a turntable if you want to play your vinyl records through the all-in-one system.
Alongisde that, there’s HDMI ARC to connect the speakers to your TV, a USB-C input if you want to connect to a laptop/PC, and through that wired connection, audio quality is elevated higher as the Coda W can support 24-bit/192kHz. RCA and optical inputs opens up routes to the liks of CD players, Blu-ray players, and game consoles for hooking up your sources tot he Coda W.
Want more bass? A dedicated subwoofer output makes it easy to add a (compatible KEF) subwoofer if you want a 2.1 system that can provide a more suitable experience of movie night. If you won’t want wires trailing about, there is also the optional KW1 wireless sub adapter kit.
Furnished in five finishes: Vintage Burgundy, Nickel Grey, Moss Green, Midnight Blue, and Dark Titanium; the Coda W is priced at $999.99 / £799.
